Marriage is not child's play " More Than Brides Alliance (MTBA)

This project was implemented in the Ségou region (in the communes of San and Niasso, in the cercle of San and in the cercles of Bla and Ségou).

Its aim was to empower young people to decide if and when to marry and to defend their right to Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) in a supportive environment.

The change sought in this project was to enable the target groups to have a better understanding of the issues surrounding child marriage and related issues: sexual and reproductive rights, education and financial empowerment in a positive environment. The following results were achieved:

In 20 villages :

  • 12 women's groups and 18 girls' groups with 2113 members trained in the GALS and EPC approaches;
  • 14 religious leaders, 33 town criers trained to advocate the abandonment of child marriage,
  • 45 students trained to run the "An ka Kuma" website,
  • 120 students (peer educators and members of children's governments), 3,200 students and teachers made aware of the harmful effects of child marriage,
  • 60 teachers trained in the gender approach and 60 (Elected representatives, State technical services staff, civil society, CGS, AME)
  • 31 radio episodes of the "C'est la vie" series, translated into the national language of Bamanankan and broadcast by 3 local radio stations
  • 200 quality SRHR services, adapted to young people, distributed in 6 health areas and 14 paralegals trained.
